Pittsburgh forward buys beer for fan

Mike Rupp might be one of the classiest players in the NHL.

According to a story published in the Toronto Sun, Rupp, a forward for the Pittsburgh Penguins, recently reached into his own wallet and slipped a fan a $10 bill to help replace the fan’s beer that Rupp accidentally spilled.

During warm-ups for one of Pittsburgh recent match-ups, Rupp accidentally knocked into the boards in front of a patron whose beer was sitting on the dasher, causing the beer to topple. In case you haven’t been to a sporting event in the last decade, a single beer is not a cheap purchase and can cost upward of $8 or more. Rupp, noticing what he had done, skated over to his bench and asked the trainer to grab his wallet from the locker room and pull out a $10.

“Mike felt terrible about it, so he asked the trainer to grab $10 out of (his) wallet,” says Rupp’s agent Allan Walsh. “He then wrote an apology on a puck, signed it and taped the $10 bill around it. He went over to the glass, got the guy’s attention and tossed the puck over to him. The fan read the note, looked up, smiled and gave a big thumbs up.”

Not a bad way to get a free beer and a great souvenir.
