Bauer Hockey recently shared a picture via its social media channels of the company’s upcoming top tier Vapor skate. Given the name of the Bauer Vapor 1X skates at the premier level, we can be assured these skates will pack some new features into an already powerful skate line.

The Bauer Vapor 1X skates were shown off to attendees of Bauer Momentum 2014, and perhaps even worn there for on ice demos as well.

The Vapor line of skates has long been the go to series of skates for many NHL players, and that certainly doesn’t appear to be stopping any time soon. The new Bauer Vapor 1X skates will likely be worn throughout the upcoming NHL season, but we have a full look at the skates a bit ahead of time.

Thanks to our friend Lane Sim, we now know the specs of the new 1X skate as well.

The Bauer Vapor 1X skates will feature a brand new Form Fit Lite felt tongue with CURV composite insert. The felt tongue will be a combination of 52oz and 40oz felt construction to help improve the overall integration of your foot and the skate. Bauer has also reduced the weight on the Form Fit Lite tongue, and added Curv composite inserts in order to provide increased protection as well as additional support.

For the first time in a skate, Bauer will be introducing their new 37.5 material into the liner of the skate. This new technology will help to regulate your core body temperature and keep your foot dry throughout play. It will also help to keep your foot locked in place for improved control. According to Bauer, their 37.5 fabric dries up to five times faster than similar moisture wicking fabrics. Moving that kind of material into your skate liner will be an awesome new feature.

The Bauer Vapor 1X skates will also see some technology that originally made an appearance in the OD1N development. The 1X skates will have a new alumunized Curv composite upper and Curv ankle support. This brand new type of boot construction will raise the standards of on-ice performance and out of the box customization, according to Bauer. The lighter weight Curv composite combined with updated X-Rib pattern will improve heel and ankle lock, which will then allow players to cross over faster and perform tighter turns.

Beneath the boot, Bauer will be introducing their new Bauer Speed Plate technology on the Vapor 1X skates. This new and proprietary technology will feature a recovery allow technology to help provide players with revolutionary customized fit characteristics for the whole foot. This new technology will help the skate to become more of a part of your foot, and enable you to achieve customized balance and stability. The result, according to Bauer, is higher top end speed.

Finally, you’ll notice that the Bauer Vapor 1X skates are going to come stock with a new Tuuk LS4 runner, rather than the LS Fusion from the APX 2 skates. This new stainless steel runner will help to maximize energy transfer throughout each stride, while also providing a better finish for a cleaner and stronger edge after sharpenings. The profile height has also been increased by 3mm in order to improve the angle of attack and allow you to perform tighter turns.

After seeing the catalog picture below, the design of the Bauer Vapor 1X skates is really starting to grow on me. I’m sure that in person, it looks and feels absolutely incredible with all of Bauer’s new technology and enhancements.

  1. The added details, specifically the tendon guard give the skate a CCM look. I would have went with more of the OD1N body with a grey on black color scheme.

  2. Not a fan of the design, too much silver and not enough black and red.

Really like the idea of putting 37.5 in the liners, that material is amazing how dry it stays.

Also glad they ditched the fusion runners, that steel cracked on me so many times and bent so easily. Is there an actual difference between LS4 and LS3’s? Weight? Materials?

  3. Yes… these are quite ugly. I will be purchasing another pair of MX3’s or find a left over pair of APX2’s as these are as ugly as one can get. Probably drive the price of leftover APX2’s above retail…lol

  4. Does anyone have any idea when these skates are actually suppose to come out? My APX 2 skates completely fell apart today and I was planning on waiting for these. If anyone has any idea let me know. Thanks.

  5. I’m beginning to get the same vibe from bauer as I do from Apple ….. Let’s keep redesigning the same product add one or two minor irreverent features and call it new and slap a huge price tag on it (iPhones) not impressed

    • That’s because bauer is doing so well it’s hard to improve so much on something nearly perfect (obviously I’m a bauer loyalist).

  6. I agree with some of the comments above.. to much bling in the design. That silver stripe is a bad 80’s flashback. The subtle grey CCM ribcor layers and design look feels great. The engineering of the boot has me excited though i do say. I like the subtle footbed color as well.

  7. Who cares what they look like. Sounds like an awesome skate. Has anyone bought a pair? Did they like them?
