Brian Burke shoots down Dougie Hamilton trade rumors

Calgary Flames president of hockey operations  Brian Burke did his best to shoot down trade rumors surrounding defenseman Dougie Hamilton today, saying that he has “no goddamned idea what they’re talking about.”

Hamilton, 23, has been the subject of persistent trade rumors since the start of the season, most recently being tied to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for players like William Nylander and James Van Riemsdyk, who could improve Calgary’s offensive production.

Burke went on TSN Radio 1050 Toronto to shoot down these rumors and reiterate that Hamilton is not being dangled as trade bait.

“It’s very frustrating when you have to deal with leaks,” Burke said. “And as soon as one of the teams that are in the mix in the leaks is the Toronto Maple Leafs…now it’s an army of leakers, an army of people who have no goddamned idea what they’re talking about, who will happily go on and say ‘The Toronto Maple Leafs are doing this and they’re in on that.’”

Burke did say that they received an “insulting” offer for Hamilton that the team quickly rejected.

“We expended a tremendous amount of assets to get this player<‘ Burke said. “We’re really happy with him, he’s a quality guy. He’s 6-foot-5, he weighs 237 pounds, he’s a right shot, skates like a deer – he’s a good hockey player.”
