Warrior Dynasty AX1 Gloves Review

Ever since their inception, Warrior has always been a strong competitor in the glove market. In fact, one of my all-time favorite gloves was from Warrior. Their Franchise series was a must own for four roll lovers, and their gloves always had a knack for staying fresh much longer than gloves from competing brands.

Well after some time, the Franchise series has said its goodbyes and the Dynasty AX1 gloves have taken their place as the premier four roll gloves from Warrior. We were fortunate enough to receive a review pair of Dynasty AX1 gloves and have used them for a couple months now. Here is our Warrior Dynasty AX1 gloves review:

Specs: Warrior Dynasty AX1 Four Roll Gloves, Navy Blue, Size 13.5”

Modifications: None

Appearance and Design:

The Warrior Dynasty AX1 gloves are Warrior’s take on the four roll glove. Four roll gloves are typically designed to offer a generous amount of volume through the hand. This fit is great from a comfort perspective, as well as from a mobility perspective.

The exterior shell of the glove is made from high quality and tough nylon. The fingers and backhand include a suede/mesh combination and the cuff features a 3D embroidered Warrior logo. The palm features a high quality clarino along with a clarino 8080 overlay for additional durability. Spongemesh gussets are used for enhanced breathability, while there is an additional grip zone on the palm for improved stick control.

The inside of the gloves features Warrior’s WarTech liner with Polygeine treatment. This helps to prevent the buildup of odor causing bacteria. It also dries quickly and provides a nice, soft feel.

Warrior’s four roll gloves also include triple segmented index and middle fingers, with dual segmented pinkie and ring fingers. The thumb will be Warrior’s Pro Lock Thumb which was designed to prevent hyperextension.

Overall the design is one of, if not the nicest out there for a four roll glove. Warrior paid attention to the details with the 3D embroidery, and really nailed the execution with some of the design elements, such as the liner. For example, after all my time spent using these gloves, I still haven’t noticed any odor or even a typical sweaty sticky feeling on my hands after games. In other gloves, regardless of the brand or price point, I’m usually seeing this type of issue after only a couple of games.

Fit and Feel:

There are other gloves on the market which offer more of a tapered fit, and others with a contoured fit around the hand, but if you like a bit more freedom and mobility, then a four roll design is for you.

As I mentioned, the Warrior Dynasty AX1 four roll gloves offer a generous amount of volume throughout the hand. The amount of extra space results in great mobility, and great comfort as well. I have not had any issues with rubbing or any uncomfortableness due to the extra space, the gloves still fit and perform well.

I was fortunate enough to get a 13.5” pair of gloves, which works quite well for me. Some retail shops will only carry full sizes, but if you’re lucky you can come across a half size from Warrior. If I had to choose one or the other, I would have sized down to get a more appropriate fit. It seems like the 14” would have allowed for a bit too much wiggle room.

The generous volume offers a great amount of comfort, but some of the materials used take it to another level. For instance, the liner inside the Warrior Dynasty AX1 gloves might be perfect. I’ve had bad experiences in the past with liners and interior padding which is far too large for the glove. The Dynasty AX1 has a smaller interior pad lining the backhand, and it’s extremely soft and comfortable. The padding doesn’t interfere with getting your hands in and out of the glove, and is never in the way. It’s hardly even noticeable.

On the palm, the clarino material is soft to the touch and requires very little break in. Adding a second layer for additional grip and durability is a great addition to the AX1 gloves. When moving into the fingers, the spongemesh gussets help to allow easy finger movement as well as breathability. My hands were never too cold wearing these gloves, but never too warm either. They obviously sweat a bit, but the moisture wicking materials combined with the gloves excellent breathability kept my hands fairly dry.

Durability and Protection:

The Warrior Dynasty AX1 gloves have been champs so far when it comes to durability. The dual layer palm shows virtually no signs of wear on either hand at this point, and they’ve been used for a couple of months now. Part of this could be due to my butt end tape job – or lack thereof. I wrap tape a couple times around the very tip of the butt end, and that’s it. With no tape rubbing the palms, there’s no friction between tape and palm and less wear to be concerned with.

When it comes to protection, I have also been quite pleased. These gloves are definitely strong enough to stand up to the rigors of physical play on the ice. I have taken multiple sticks and a couple pucks to the backhand of these gloves with no pain.

While some NHL clubs are adding additional padding to the backhand of some gloves, if you’re playing in a rec league you’re not going to need it. In fact, these gloves by themselves will offer enough protection for most levels of hockey, even professional leagues.

Overall Impression:

From my first time using these gloves on the ice, I was sold on them.

The Dynasty AX1 four roll gloves look good on your hand, feel great when you’re wearing them, and above all else they somehow manage to keep my hands from smelling terrible week after week. While the gloves are steep in price, they just may be worth every penny. Right now, these are tops on my list for a pair of four roll gloves.
