This isn’t a flashback to the 1992 film Wayne’s World, where Mike Myers and Dana Carvey has scenes where they played ball hockey in the middle of the street. You are looking at players participating in the Canadian Olympic camp in Calgary. They can’t skate on ice due to insurance regulations, so Mike Babcock and his staff decided to have the players run up and down the rink chasing a ball.’

This was useful as they were able to simulate on the larger Olympic-sized ice that wasn’t used when they won the gold three years ago in Vancouver. The talent scouts also looked at potential line combinations. One combination was Patrick Sharp and Chris Kunitz with Sidney Crosby. The Olympic camp continues this week at MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park.
