Boyle, Iginla and Jagr Are Trade Deadline Targets

Dan Boyle

Dan Boyle - San Jose SharksRumors are heating up involving the San Jose Sharks trading defenseman Dan Boyle. One possible destination for the 36-year-old defenseman is the New York Rangers. In fact, this rumor has been hot this week with suggestions that the Rangers might swap Marian Gaborik for Dan Boyle.

Boyle would add veteran depth to the Rangers blue line, something they are in need of. Additionally, it would give Boyle the opportunity to team up again with coach John Tortorella. Boyle and Tortarelli teamed up in Tampa Bay during the Lightning’s Stanley Cup win of 2003-04.

On the flip side, Gaborik would give the Sharks an additional scoring threat and would help strengthen their top two lines. Gaborik started this season hot, but has cooled off recently. He added only four points in February, and has been held pointless in his past five games. Perhaps he could benefit from a change of scenery?

Despite the rumors, Boyle is content with his current situation.

“This is where I want to be. I don’t want to be anywhere else,” he said. “You guys have been with me for five years and you know what I bring to the table. I don’t want to be anywhere else. It’s not fun to hear that. The only other time my name was involved was five years ago. Sometimes where there’s smoke there’s fire, and I hope in this case, it’s not the case. It’s hard not to pay attention to that stuff.”
