NHL Photos of the Week

Some teams had a pretty good week by winning all of their games played, while others, cannot buy a win. Below are some pictures of both ends of the spectrum.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are currently on a 9-game winning streak. Not too shabby considering they were playing without forward Evgeni Malkin due to a shoulder injury. While losing a player of such caliber always hurts, it will be interesting to see how they do with the possibility of defenseman Kris Letang missing time after he left Sunday’s game against the Boston Bruins with a lower body injury.

If I don’t mention the Montreal Canadiens my buddy will kill me. So, here they are. They are riding a 5-game winning streak that is anything but a fluke this year. All Habs haters can keep quite for now, that is until come playoffs where they will be put to the test. They are a small team who knows how to score while being backed-up by a very good goaltender in Carey Price, but can they adapt to the more physical game play in playoffs down the road we will see.

Everything is bigger in Texas, except say the opposing team’s nets. The Dallas Stars have lost 4 games in a row and see themselves last within the Pacific Division and only 3 points away from being last place within the Western conference. Last week they lost all three of their games with some by large margins; 0-4 Nashville Predators, 1-2 OTL Anaheim Ducks and 1-8 Chicago Blackhawks. Add it all up and you have 2 goals for and 14 goals against; that’s a -12 goal differential in just three games.

This is the Toronto Maple Leafs we have come to know. They do alright and all of a sudden they take a turn for the worse. Having lost 5 games in a row, their three days off before they face the Tampa Bay Lightning is welcomed. They currently hold the 6th spot in the Eastern Conference, but if they cannot right the ship soon, they can find themselves dropping pretty quickly in a tight  race to make the playoffs.
