NHL Photos of the Week

While those who score goals get the glory, the players setting up the play tend to go unnoticed. In this weeks photos we highlight some of last weeks players who notched a lot of helpers.

Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins lead all players in assists last week with 9 in total. Five of those came Sunday night’s 6-1 win over the New York Islanders. Add 2 goals and a plus 7 rating, Sid the Kid absolutely lit it up last week. To date, he has 33 helpers which leads all player.

Something about being signed to an 8-year, $66-million dollar contract extension that gets your motor running. Ryan Getzlaf will be an Anaheim Duck for quite a while and he showed the club he was thankful. He had 6 helpers throughout the week and an additional 3 goals. He also reached 500 points Friday night against the Calagary Flames on an assist to Bobby Ryan’s goal. Not bad at all for a week of positives for the Duck’s Captain.

The Los Angeles Kings got off to a rocky start but have since reclaimed there Stanley Cup Champions form. Going 8-2-0 in their last 10, they are currently sitting fifth in the Western Conference and second in the Pacific Division. Defenseman Slava Voynov helped the team win three of their four games last week with 6 helpers and 1 goal. Three of his assists came on the powerplay. Voynov is the third highest average of ice-time for the Kings, averaging 22:06 a game.

The Montreal Canadiens made a trade between the Dallas Stars that some Hab fans worry. Considering Michael Ryder netted 2 powerplay goals and 6 assists last week, Hab fans can relax. They got the better end of the deal so far as Ryder has 9 points in 7 games with the Canadiens while Erik Cole has only 1 goal in 4 game with the Stars.

We can thank the Colorado Avalanche for finally ending the Chicago Blackhawks winning streak. The Avalanche sized up their competition in a 3-2 loss on Wednesday to beat the Blackhawks two days 6-2 on home ice. The win came largely in part to Matt Duchene’s goal and 3 assist in the game. Last week he ended with 4 goals and 3 assists.
