Alkali CA9 Roller Hockey Skates

A few weeks ago, we mentioned a new up-and-coming roller hockey company called Alkali Hockey. We knew at that time that they were getting close to unveiling some of their gear for their first line, and for Narch and State Wars, they set up a nice booth featuring all of their products. The first we wanted to take a look at was their top of the line Alkali CA9 roller hockey skate. While we don’t have all the tech specs on the skates for you, we can give you a few highlights from the CA9 skates.

Right away, you’ll notice the black and yellow color scheme, which we love. It looks great on the skate, and they handled design in a very traditional way with the mostly black boot, which also looks very appealing. The boot is said to fit like a combination between Graf and Bauer. The heel will be narrow while the forefoot will be a bit wider. They were built on a completely new last, will have a new toe box, and can be put in the oven for 10 minutes to achieve a true heat molded fit.

As far as components, we can tell from the pictures below that the Alkali CA9 roller hockey skates will feature a magnesium chassis and a straight 80mm wheel set up. The Labeda Addiction wheels will be standard on the CA9 skates, which will be great for high level players who want the best combination of grip and speed.

The Alkali CA9 roller hockey skates will drop this fall. Take a look at the skates below and let us know your thoughts. Will you get behind Alkali Hockey and grab a pair of their CA9 skates?

Bauer Vapor XR3 Roller Hockey Skate

For the recreational level roller hockey player, Bauer has released the new Bauer Vapor XR3 roller hockey skate. The Vapor XR3 roller hockey skate will feature a sublimated woven mesh quarter package with new molded X-rib pattern and injected PP backer. The liner will be a brushed nylon, and topping off the boot will be their standard anatomical 2 piece white felt tongue. Down below the boot, you’ll find a detonator hi-lo vanguard (76/80mm) chassis. The skates will carry Bauer’s own XR3 indoor wheel, with a 76a durometer, and the wheels will spin on abec 7 bearings.

These skates can benefit a first time roller hockey player, or someone looking to upgrade from a lower end model and add a bit more stiffness and longevity in the boot. The wheels can be easily switched out, which can also make the skate great for someone who needs an upgrade in their outdoor roller hockey skate. A simple upgrade of wheels can also increase performance for anyone not looking to break the bank on a boot, but needs high performing wheels for better turns and grip. As you can probably tell, this skate can suit a lot of different players.

If you’re going to stick with the stock options, you should be very pleased with what you get. Our very own EB purchased the very similar Vapor RX20 skates not too long ago, and has seen exceptional high-level performance out of a budget friendly skate. The new Bauer Vapor XR3 roller hockey skates feature a much nicer look to them, however. The dark grey boot, featuring black and red accents gives it a real sharp look, and is made for a player who is going to let his performance on the rink do the talking, not his loud equipment.

Want to pick up a pair of the Vapor XR3 inline skates for yourself? Head over to Inline Warehouse to pre-order them for only $179.99. The XR3 skates will begin to ship on September 15th.

If you’re looking for a different skate in the new Bauer roller hockey line, check out the options below:

Otherwise, take a look at the Bauer Vapor XR3 skates below and let us know your thoughts.

Bauer Vapor XR4 Roller Hockey Skates

The  Bauer Vapor XR4 roller hockey skates will fall in the middle of the new skate line. This skate will still offer great features and materials to more advanced recreational and competitive players, but will also help your wallet out if you need to get great value out of a lower price point skate.

You will probably notice immediately that the Bauer Vapor XR4 roller hockey skate sticks with the same color scheme that you see on the Vapor XR5. It contains a lot of greys, along with black and red, but the boot will be a lighter shade of grey than what is featured on its big brother. When it comes to components on this skate, I don’t think you will be disappointed. The quarter package will feature a sublimated woven nylon with new molded X-rib pattern. Inside the boot you’ll notice the hydrophobic microfiber liner as well as the anatomic 2-piece white felt tongue. Beneath the boot of the Vapor XR4, you’re going to find a 6000 series aluminum detonator hi-lo vanguard chassis. Labeda Millenium X-Soft wheels will come stock, and so will abec 9 bearings. These skates will, of course, be thermoformable as well.

The new Bauer Vapor XR4 inline skate will come in both senior and junior sizes, full and half, but will only be available in an R width. If you’re looking to pick up a pair of XR4 skates, you can head over to InlineWarehouse to pre-order a pair today. The skates will begin to ship on September 15th, and senior sizes will be retailing for $249.99.

Bauer Vapor XR5 Roller Hockey Skate

Second in line for Bauer skates this year will be the Bauer Vapor XR5 roller hockey skate. While it will not be the top of the line skate, the Bauer Vapor XR5 will still have most of the features required from an advanced level player. Priced much lower than the APXR, the Vapor XR5 roller hockey skate could very well be the hottest seller in the new line.

The Bauer Vapor XR5 roller hockey skate is going to come with an ultra-light tech mesh quarter package that features the new molded X-rib pattern. On the inside of the boot, you will find the quick-dry hydrophobic grip liner. The tongue will be a 2-piece elite white felt, with metatarsal padding, that should be great for flopping. Your outsole on the XR5 will be a fiber composite to help enhance energy transfer.

Beneath the boot, you’re going to find a 6000 series CNC aluminum hi‑lo Vanguard chassis. We’re a little disappointed to not see a magnesium chassis, but it helps keep the price lower so we can live with it. The stock XR5 wheels will be Labeda Dynasty 3 X-soft which will spin on Swiss LE 608 bearings.

Just like the APXR, the Bauer Vapor XR5 roller hockey skate will only come in senior sizes 6-12 (full and half), and in D or EE widths.

We’re really digging the look of this skate as the greys on the boot are highlighted nicely with red accents. The red wheels match perfectly and give the skate a real nice overall look.

If you’re in the market for a new pair of inline skates and want to pick up a pair of these, you will not have to wait long. The Bauer Vapor XR5 roller hockey skate will hit retail stores September 15th, or you can pre-order a pair right now from Inline Warehouse for only $450!

Now we want to hear from you. Tell us what you think of the new Bauer Vapor XR5 roller hockey skates!

Reebok 5k Roller Hockey Skates (2012)

Update: The Reebok 5k roller hockey skates are now available at Inline Warehouse for only $199.99. Head over to IW now to check them out.

The Reebok 5k roller hockey skates will be a step up from the lowest price point skate in the 2012 line. Don’t let that deter you, though. These skates will come in at a good price point and will have some good features of their own. Primarily, the Reebok 5k roller hockey skates will be for your typical recreation league player who isn’t looking to break the bank. However, you will certainly see a few competitive players wearing them as well.

On the Reebok 5k’s, you’re still going to get a nice looking felt tongue. This will be great for all you floppers out there. The tongue will not offer the same lace bite protection as the higher price point skates though. The quarter panel will be stiff and durable, allowing you to get that really powerful stride.

Down on the bottom, you’re going to find that great Labeda chassis that so many of us love, featuring the 4x80mm set up to help those quick players get even quicker. You’ll find the Labeda Gripper wheels on this guy as well, along with Abec 7 bearings. Personally, I think some white Labeda Addiction wheels would look great on these skates, or the white 9k skates, especially if you’re looking to make a step up in the wheel department.

The 2012 Reebok 5k roller hockey skates are now available at Inline Warehouse, and cost $199.99.

Be sure to check out the other skates from the 2012 Reebok roller hockey line as well

Reebok 7k Roller Hockey Skate (2012)

Update: The Reebok 7k roller hockey skates are now available from Inline Warehouse for only $269.99, a great value for this skate. Head over to IW now to check them out!

Joining the Reebok 11k and 9k roller hockey skates this fall will be the Reebok 7k Pump roller hockey skates. The new 7k’s will be the lowest price point skate to feature the Reebok Pump technology. If you’re not familiar with the Reebok Pump, it allows you to personalize your fit a bit more and give you a better heel lock as you pump up the air pockets. In addition, it will also feature the same new Labeda 4x80mm set-up that we’re seeing on the other skates in the Reebok 2012 line. Reebok and Labeda did a great job teaming up for this new chassis, as they gave it a great custom look that meshes with the skate perfectly.

When you take a look at the specs, you’ll see that the Reebok 7k inline skate will be a great mid-level skate. You’re going to get a really nice felt toungue that will fit the contours of your feet, and offer great lace bite protection as well. The 7k will also be the lowest level skate that still offers the lace-lock technology, keeping your laces tight for the entire game. As I mentioned before, you get the largely popular Labeda chassis, as well as Labeda Millenium wheels and Abec 7 bearings.

The 2012 Reebok 7k inline skates are now available from Inline Warehouse and run $269.99.

What are your thoughts on the new Reebok 7k roller hockey skates for 2012? Will you be picking up a pair when they hit stores?

HWB Takes Top Seed

In the not to distant caliber of the NHL, roller hockey team HockeyWorldBlog.com has taken the top seed of their league in last game’s win over the Ducks.

HockeyWorldBlog.com have had a rough couple of last few seasons. Last year in particular, the team started with a 2-0 record only to fall to a 5-5-1 overall. The mediocre season was followed by an early exit in the playoffs in a tough 3-2 loss.

“It was tough, there’s no doubt about it” General Manager Hank McCoy said. “We knew we had to change it up in the off-season.”

They had a complete overhaul, team name and all. Previously Non Rostered Skaters, the team donned the official name of their sponsor Hockey World Blog.

“It was either that or relocate to Winnipeg” defensman Chris said. “I don’t know about you, but Winnipeg sure is cold in the winter; and that doesn’t do wonders for my tan.”

Team name change was not the only thing altered as the team saw some moves to the roster.

“We needed to change it up. We opted to convert Eddie from forward to goalie and add a few free agents in Turtle and Mitch.” GM Hank commented. “This did come at a loss of a few good guys, but ultimately we had to do something different.”

HWB also made a trade for forward Koenig. The details of the trade were never publicized, but rumors have it that the trade required a bag of pucks and a gift card to Taco Bell.

The roster changes seemed to be working as the team has taken over first place after last night’s win. HWB came into the contest holding down third place with a 4-2-0 record. The competition, the Ducks, were holding onto the top seed at 5-1-0.

“We knew coming into the game that we were the underdogs. The Ducks have some solid players” forward EB said. “But we believe in ourselves, something we lacked last season.”

The puck drop was at 7:40 PM and the game got underway. Jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first, EB faked right and ended up putting a backhand pass the goalie.

“Evan made a great dish from behind the back of the net to the slot. From there I read what the goalie was doing and went with instinct.” EB said about the play. “Lately I’ve been mixing it up and going for more backhands. I haven’t really done many in the past, but the Blue Ice Nano Pro seems to be working in my favor.”

The second period saw HWB jumping out to a 2-0 lead as Evan put one off the goalie from the goal line in the corner. One fan said it looked like a Thomas Vanek bank shot.

The lead was cut in half as the Ducks put their first on the board only three minutes later. HWB was upset however as they felt the goalie was interfered with as the shooter ran into Eddie causing the puck to go in. The referee on the play saw a different angle and assessed a 2 minute roughing call to Koenig for levling the shooter.

Third period turned out to be the period to watch as 2:45 in Mitch put one by the Duck’s goalie. In a bad case of Déjà vu, Mitch barreled into the goalie only miliseconds after the puck crossed the goal line.

Two minutes after HWB went up 3-1, the Ducks once again inched their way within one with a low blister.

The next play was followed by some rough stuff as after Eddie made a big save, the Duck’s forward got a late slash in at the puck. Evan did not take to kindly to the matter and lifted and threw the forward to the ground. After the player got up, a high stick seemed to catch Evan which set him into a furry. After pleading his case in a not so nice tone from the penalty box, Evan was assessed a double minor for roughing and a 10 minute misconduct. The play also saw the Ducks taking a 2 minute high stick and a 2 minute power play after the coincidental penalties were over. The Ducks capitalized after a shot from the slot was kicked out to the stick of a Duck’s forward who buried it.

“There was not much we could do on that one” GM Hank said. “Chris was clearing out the front of the net and swapped off at the right moment to put pressure on the shooter. The rebound seemed to go straight to their stick and no goalie could have stopped that.”

With the game tied at three a piece, and time winding down, HockeyWorldBlog.com defensman Brendan ripped one from the high circle low glove side pass the goalie and into the back of the net. With three minutes left on the clock, the fans were standing on their feet for the end of this one.

“That was a big goal for us. I knew if we got the lead I would do my best to keep the puck out of the net,” Eddie said. “They started running a diamond offense scheme in the second period that allowed them to get wide open scoring opportunities late in the game but I managed to keep the puck out of the net.”

HWB were able to hold off the Duck’s as the time was nearing 90 seconds left. A faceoff in HWB’s zone gave the Ducks an opportunity to call timeout and set up a game plan as well as get the extra attacker on the rink.

“Once the puck was dropped it seemed like time slowed as they seemed to get off four or five quality scoring opportunities. To be honest, I do not know how the puck didn’t go in.” EB said as he viewed the game from the bench.

“There was a point there where they got a good shot off but it was blocked right in front. Guys were everywhere; on the ground, falling, going for the puck that was at the top of the goal crease.” Chris said. “The only one who was standing was Matt who looked like Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots out there. Every time a Duck would go for the puck which was at Matt’s feet, Matt just knocked them down, punching with one glove and then the other.”

Fans seemed to be laughing at the spectacle that took place in the last 15 seconds of the game. The media asked Matt about the play after the game only to Matt saying nothing but showing an ear-to-ear grin.

HockeyWorldBlog.com ended up holding the Duck’s off, pinning the puck in a corner scrum as the final few ticks finished.

The team plays again next week and looks to hold onto their number 1 seed against a 3-2-2 CT. HWB will be missing defenseman Curlew as well as forward EB. A call to their minor league team will hopefully result in a few call-ups.

Tour Thor BX Pro Roller Hockey Skate

Tour Hockey recently unveiled one of their latest products, the new Tour Thor BX Pro roller hockey skate. After a successful launch of high-end skates last year, Tour looks to launch another line in 2011 focusing more on the lower end to mid-range skates. Coming in at the popular $199 price point, the Tour Thor BX Pro roller hockey skate is going to compete directly with the Mission Axiom T6 ($199), as well as skates from both Bauer and Reebok which are priced similarly.

From my perspective, Tour has definitely nailed the design on the Thor BX Pro. The grey and black boot with orange accents and wheels really looks tremendous. It’s certainly not an overly flashy skate, as you might be used to from Tour, but it will definitely get the job done.

As far as components are concerned, the Thor BX Pro will feature the Labeda Hum’er Extreme chassis, which of course offers a straight wheel set-up of 80mm. The skate will come stock with Labeda wheels as well, the Millenium Gripper, which will sit on Bevo ABEC 9 bearings. Inside the boot you’ll find a custom quilted lining, as well as the memory foam comfort fit that you might be used to with Tour skates. Over all, you’re really seeing some great properties on an ideal price point skate in the Thor BX Pro. This skate should definitely be able to hold its own in the current market and should be a popular pick-up for anyone on the hunt for a new summer skate.

Mission Axiom T10 Revolt Roller Hockey Skate

Mission is gearing up for October with a “clean and mean” new skate. The latest to join the Axiom line will be the Mission Axiom T10 Revolt roller hockey skate. We’ve got a great picture below of the brand new Mission Axiom T10 Revolt, so let us know what you think. In my opinion, it’s definitely a great looking roller hockey boot, sticking with the real flashy nature of Mission over the past few years. They seem to be taking it a step further this year, going with the white boot, real shiny graphics, and some yellow laces and wheels to really make the skate pop. The Mission Axiom T10 Revolt will be a great skate for anyone looking to be stick out in a crowd with their high end gear and performance. As time goes on, the looks continue to grow on me and I’m really digging the new skate.

When you dive into the specs on this skate, you can see why it will sit atop the Mission line of skates. The quarter package is going to be an ultra-light reinforced nylon tech mesh which will be durable and stiff enough to hold up to the demands of competitive roller hockey. The T10 Revolt will have a nice perforated two-piece white felt, true vented tongue, with a new VEX foam lace bite insert. The ventilation will be great for helping to keep your feet dry during game play. Another new feature on the new skate will be metal tipped yellow laces. This is a good move and hopefully they new lace tips prove to be more durable.

Moving to the bottom of the skate,  you’ll find an aluminized glass composite outsole which will really help with energy transfer through your foot into the skate. The Axiom T10 Revolt will come with the standard high-end magnesium hi-lo vanguard chassis, along with Rink Rat Hornet Split LE XXX grip wheels. I don’t know how many of you have seen the Split wheels in action, but along with performing well, they look pretty sick when they spin. The T10′s will also feature Mission Swiss LE 608 bearings.

If you’re looking to get into a new pair of skates this fall, and Mission is your brand and fit, definitely check out the Mission Axiom T10 Revolt skate. You can pre-order the Axiom T10 at Inline Warehouse right now, and they will begin shipping skates on September 15th. The T10′s will retail slightly higher than the Axiom T9, coming in at $649.99.

Bauer Vapor APXR Roller Hockey Skates

Update (7/19/11): Details are finally starting to flow about the new Bauer Vapor APXR roller hockey skate. The boot will be the same as the Vapor APX ice hockey skate, featuring the 3D lasted ALIVE composite upper with new molded X-rib pattern. On the inside we’ll have a hydra max 2 liner with integrated total edge comfort: 1 part moisture wicking/1 part abrasion resistance. But rather than the form-fit 3 tongue which is found on the APX, the APXR inline skate will have the form-fit 2 molded white felt tongue. The outsole of the skate will be an aluminized glass composite, which will be great for energy transfer.

As far as roller hockey components, you’re going to see a lot more top end stuff on this skate. The chassis will be the magnesium hi-lo vanguard that we’re used to seeing on Bauer/Mission skates, and it will come stock with some great Labeda Addiction XXX grip wheels. You’re also going to be rolling on the Swiss LE 608 bearings if you pick up a pair of the APXR skates.

The Bauer Vapor APXR will only come in senior sizes 6-12, full and half, and will also come in D and EE widths. I know many of you have been wondering about price, and we have confirmed, the APXR will retail for $850, making it Bauer’s most expensive skate to date. This may seem overwhelming, but as we heard in part one of our interview with Bauer’s Director of R&D, people are willing to pay top dollar to get the absolute best performance out of a piece of equipment.

I have to say, this is definitely one of the best looking roller hockey skates I have ever seen. The only thing I’m not digging about the Bauer Vapor APXR are the orange accents on the wheels, chassis and especially the laces. Playing roller hockey most of my life, I’m definitely aware that there are standards for being flashy on the rink, but I would definitely switch my laces out for some traditional ones (if the orange comes stock). Besides that, we can see they’re sticking with the Labeda Addiction wheels, which is definitely a good choice. Along with the great wheels, you will also be getting the magnesium hi-lo chassis featured on all Bauer/Mission top end skates.

As for the boot itself, the Bauer Vapor APXR will definitely live up to the hype generated by its ice counterpart, and will incorporate many of the same features. It looks like they added a more defined area of protection on the front part of the APXR boot. This will take all the scratches when the boot rubs against the floor while turning or taking a stride. I’m still sort of perplexed on why they wouldn’t just add the plastic cap like you see on Mission and Tour skates, but at the same time, this choice offers a much cleaner look.

Those of you looking at getting a pair of Bauer Vapor APXR skates won’t have to wait long. The skates will hit stores September 15th, or, you can pre-order a pair from Inline Warehouse right now!

What are your thoughts on the new Bauer Vapor APXR roller hockey skate?
