It’s still early in the season, but I think we may have found an early favorite for shootout goal of the year. Last night, Patrick Kane dazzled and amazed fans with his shootout goal against Niklas Backstrom of the Minnesota Wild. Kane’s game winner saw him put his lightning quick hands on display as he deked back and forth several times before finally baiting Backstrom completely out of position and slamming the puck home in a wide open net.

Back in September, Patrick Kane said he was ready to elevate his game to the next level. With shootout goals like this one, it looks like he is well on his way. Take a look at Patrick Kane’s shootout goal vs. Minnesota below and leave us a comment with your thoughts.

Check out this ridiculous goal from Eliezer Sherbatov of the Israeli National Team. This dandy came from the IIHF Divison III Championships in April, but flew under the radar until recently. As you can see, Sherbatov actually pulls the puck back between his legs, flips it up, then tips it past the keeper. Absolutely insane goal, and one that will be hard to top.

If you’re wondering, Sherbatov currently plays in the QMJHL and split time between the Montreal Juniors and Baie-Comeau Drakkar last season. Here’s a link to his stats over at HockeyDB.

Did anyone catch game five between Anaheim and Nashville? If so, you were treated to one of the best goals from the 2010-11 NHL season and playoffs. After intercepting a David Legwand pass, Anaheim’s Bobby Ryan skated hard towards Pekka Rinne. At the blue line, Legwand was undressed for the first time, and between the circles, Ryan did it again cutting back the other way. After two ridiculous dangles, he went to his backhand and roofed it past Rinne.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know if you think this slick tally should be goal of the year!

Upon stumbling on one of my favorite sports websites Deadspin this morning, I found a solid deke that occured in a shootout from the USHL. If you are unfamiliar with the USHL, it’s one of the primer junior hockey leagues in the country. Where the CHL (and it’s umbrella leagues WHL, OHL and QMJHL) is the feeder league for the NHL and other professional leagues, the USHL is the feeder system for players aspiring to play college hockey. Most, if not all, of your big-name division I schools recruit talent from this league as well as other smaller junior leagues in Canada. Left-handed shooting Travis Walsh of the Muskegon Lumberjacks is committed to Michigan State to continue on to college hockey. If he can dangle college goalies the way he did against Cedar Rapids, he will be pretty good for the Spartans. The video has also gone viral as it even made ESPN Sportscenter’s Top Plays over the weekend. The goal was so sick, even chicken noodle soup couldn’t help.

It looks like Pavel Datsyuk spent his offseason teaching a camp on how to perform his signature shootout move, and Claude Giroux and Matt Duchene were two attendees. It seems like Giroux still has some work to do in order to refine his effort, but Matt Duchene pulled it off flawlessly. Gotta give both guys extra credit for roofing it with authority. Take a look at the videos:
