Jiri Hudler of the Detroit Red Wings takes a page out of Henrik Zetterberg’s book as he pulls of a one handed deke on netminder Richard Bachman. Hudler’s goal was the one and only of the shootout which saw the Dallas Stars lose their third game in a row. The Wings, on the other hand, have won 4 games in a row and currently sit on top of a highly competitive Central Division.

Dallas Stars’ Kari Lehtonen gets deked and scored on by St. Louis Blues’ forward T.J. Oshie. Oshie’s goal midway through the third period put the Blues up in an eventual 1 – 0 victory. The victory has put the Blues at the top of the Western Conference with 60 points; a place no one predicted them to be at this season. Media is beginning to hail Head Coach Ken Hitchcock for his role in the change of play of the Blues, picking him early to win the Jack Adams Award. The Jack Adams award is an annual award presented by the National Hockey League Broadcasters’ Association to the NHL coach adjudged to have contributed the most to his team’s success.

Todd Bertuzzi’s 360 Spin Goal

Last night in the Detroit-Buffalo game the Red Wings set a franchise record with 15 consecutive wins at home. In addition, Pavel Datsyuk passed the 700-point plateau with three assists in the game. All-Star goalie Jimmy Howard recorded his fifth shutout of the season as the Red Wings routed the Sabres 5-0.

Todd Bertuzzi has been on a tear after starting the season off slow. In the first 14 games of the season he had only three points. But he’s turned it on as of late with 20 points in his last 24 games. In tonight’s game he had a goal and two assists and one of the best goals you will see this season as he slid a backhand spin-o-rama past Ryan Miller for the fourth goal of the game. He was pulled seconds later when Darren Helm scored 13 seconds after Bertuzzi. Miller didn’t have a good stretch of hockey between the first and second periods as he allowed four goals in a goal of 6:21 between the first and second periods.

Pittsburgh Penguins’ center Evgeni Malkin shows a little love to Penguins’ fans after he scores against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the third period to put his team up by one. Malkin continued his dominance as he scored two more goals in the period to complete his hat trick. Malkin ended the night with 3 goals and 2 assist for 5 points out of the 6 goals scored by the Penguins. The Penguins beat the Lightning 6 – 3.

On a different note, is that Brooks Orpik’s twin brother in the baby blue Pens jersey?

Brad Marchand TV Commercial for Pure Hockey

Our good friends over at Pure Hockey hooked up with Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand for a pretty funny commercial. Marchand, currently suspended for a low hit on Vancouver Canucks defensman Sami Salo, is lightning it up this season. Marchand has 32 points (16G, 16A) in his 37 game splayed thus far. That is only 9 points away from his more or less rookie season last year.

Watch the commercial below followed by the making of the commercial. I love the helmet part.

BOSTON, MA – JANUARY 12: Mike Cammalleri #13 of the Montreal Canadiens Calgary Flames skates with the puck against the Boston Bruins. Cammalleri was pulled out of the game after two periods, sent to the hotel for later instructions, and then notified he was traded. The trade between Montreal and Calgary sees Cammalleri, netminder Karri Rammo and a fifth-round pick in this year’s draft going to Calgary in exchange for Rene Bourque, Patrick Holland and a second-round pick in 2013 going to Montreal. The trade came a day after Cammalleri made negative comments about the club, most notably that the Canadiens, “play like losers.” The Montreal Canadiens’ circus continues…

Tomas Vokoun #29 of the Washington Capitals comes out of his crease to play the puck against the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. Vokoun turned away 30 shots to pick up his second shutout of the season. He is rocking Bauer gear, who just yesterday, visited Vokoun for a photo shoot.

Tyler Seguin #19 of the Boston Bruins sports a Michael Jordan tongue as he stick-handles in the Winnipeg Jets’ defensive zone. Seguin has been a fantasy late round gem with 17 goals and 21 assists in 38 games played thus far. Seguin is only in his second year as a NHL professional, winning the Stanley Cup his rookie season with the Boston Bruins. Look at the bend of his right ankle in his Bauer Vapor APX ice hockey skates.

Mason Raymond spin-o-rama shootout winner

Mason Raymond must be dizzy after all the spinning he does in shootouts.

Tonight he pulled out his patented spin-o-rama move against the Tampa Bay Lightning for what ended up being the shootout game winner for the Vancouver Canucks. But immediately after he scored you can see Tampa Bay goalie Dwayne Roloson talking about the move to the ref and, after the goal, Steve Stamkos was delayed on his shootout attempt as the officials went to Toronto to review the goal. Why? Because the spin-o-rama move is borderline illegal in the shootout.

When it comes to shootouts and penalty shots, two main rules apply – a player only gets one attempt to score (meaning he can not bat in rebounds) and he must continue with forward progress toward the net. The spin-o-rama seems to stop the forward progress of the player as he puts on the brakes and pulls the puck around to the other side to tuck it into the open net. This move has been controversial in the past with other players pulling it off, but Raymond seemingly took it to the extreme in the shootout victory tonight where he seemingly halted all forward progress before making the move, prompting the review in Toronto.

Take a look at the entire shootout in the video below and you decide.  Do you think it should have counted or did Raymond stop forward progress, thus negating the goal? Raymond’s shootout attempt begins at the 1:30 mark.

Jack Johnson Tebowing

Tebowing is a growing phenomenon these days, with fans and now players continuing in Tim Tebow’s footsteps as he kneels for a prayer after a touchdown. Tebowing first made its way to the ice  in December when Colton Orr of the Toronto Maple Leafs did it gracefully after scoring a shootout goal in a Maple Leafs event.

Now, Jack Johnson of the Los Angeles Kings has become the first NHL star to tebow as a goal celebration. Johnson, who had last scored a goal on December 1st, 2011, apparently made a promise to friends that he would tebow after his next goal. Teammates and fans didn’t have to wait long as Johnson tallied last night, the day after making his deal. He added an assist on the night, and helped his team to a 5-2 victory over the Washington Capitals, but his goal celebration has clearly stolen the show.

Check out the video below for a full highlight of Jack Johnson’s tebowing action, along with his five-hole snipe.
