Bauer Supreme One.9 Skates

Replacing the Bauer Supreme One100 skate in April, 2012, will be the new Bauer Supreme One.9 skates. The Supreme One.9 skates will be second only to the Total One NXG, and will still carry the features expected by an advanced or pro level player.

Beginning with the quarter package, Bauer will continue to use their 3D anaformable composite upper, which is now called Curv. You may recognize its previous name more, as it was called the ALIVE composite in previous years. The materials themselves have not changed, simply the name of the brand.

Moving inside the boot, the Bauer Supreme One.9 skate is going to feature its hydrophobic clarino liner, which is made of synthetic leather. This liner has great moisture wicking properties, and will help to keep your liner dry during games or practice. The lightweight anaform fit foam ankle pads inside the boot are going to provide exceptional support, and provide less added weight than some of the anaform fit foam pads found in lower Supreme models.

The Supreme One.9 tongue will be an anatomical, 52 oz. two-piece felt tongue, just like what was featured in the One100. It will also have the same high density metatarsal guard to help protect against lace bite. Additional foot support will be found on the form-fit+ footbed, with stabilizer grip and Curv composite inserts.

Beneath the boot you’re going to find some more strong components which will make the Bauer Supreme One.9 one of the top skates on the market. The outsole will of course be a full lightweight composite and beneath that you’ll find a TUUK Lightspeed 2 holder with LS 2.1 Power stainless steel runner.

The Supreme One.9 skates will be another strong release from Bauer Hockey, and should be a hot seller for anyone with a Supreme foot looking to get into a new, high-end skate. As one of the top skates in the line, you can expect the Supreme One.9 skates to retail for around $599. Check out the Bauer Supreme One.9 skates below and let us know your thoughts.

Winter Classic Hockey Sticks

Bauer recently released photos of the Winter Classic hockey sticks for both the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers. The two teams will square off against one another Monday, January 2nd at 1:00 PM Eastern time. In the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, the two teams will play outdoors, this years venue is Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park. The park is home to the Philadelphia Phillies Major League Baseball team.

But enough chit chat about the game, the picture of the sticks are below. Not certain if these will become available to the public or possibly a special purchase for only a select period of time, but take a look and let us know what you think.

Bauer Vapor APX Gloves

The Bauer Vapor APX gloves and APX Pro gloves are the latest high end gloves from the Vapor line of protective equipment. Due out in April, 2012, the APX gloves are going to keep the same tapered fit that we’re familiar with in Vapor gloves, and carry all the top end features we like to see.

Beginning with the cuff, the APX gloves will have a free flex cuff to provide you with maximum mobility while stickhandling. The Aero Foam construction used in the gloves will reduce overall weight by 20%, while continuing to provide great protection for your hand. On the APX gloves, you’ll see a techni-flex palm to ensure great feel all while providing incredible durability. It’s also going to be lined with silver fibers, much like the Warrior Franchise gloves, to add increased resistance to odors and staining.

With the APX Pro gloves, you’re going to notice a few differences. The biggest one will be the palm, as the APX pro gloves will use a dual layer nash palm instead of the techni-flex. The APX Pro will be constructed out of dual density foams, rather than the Aero Foams, while the shell uses pro nylon mesh instead of synthetic leather. The tapered fit will be consistent through both, however, the cuff on the APX pro gloves will be a contoured and segmented cuff rather than the free flex cuff. Both gloves will use Bauer’s Thermo Max+ liner to help keep the gloves dry.

Will the Bauer Vapor APX or APX Pro gloves be your next set of gloves? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Bauer RX 10 Senior Goalie Stick Review: First Impressions

I was looking to upgrade the stick I use in goal. I had never used a composite goalie stick, as I have always used wood sticks. My previous stick was a Sher-Wood 7000R that I have had for several years, dating back to 2005. I had never had a goalie stick from Bauer or Reebok, but what sold be on this particular stick was a feature I had never seen before on a goalie stick: a flat (vs. concave) paddle.

The best goalie stick made by Bauer, the RX 10 is different than most other goalie sicks for several reasons.

Stick: Bauer RX 10 Senior Composite Goalie Stick

Flex: P31

Lie: 14

Face: Open

Toe: Round

Length: 27.5″

Price: $239.99 at Pure Hockey

Aesthetics:

Very slick looking aesthetics. It mostly has a matte/dull finish in white/grey/black. It is shiny in the areas where there is a lot of grip. Those areas would be where the shaft meets the paddle and midway up the shaft. I like the dull finish because it allows me to easily slide my right hand to the top to aid in poke-checking and shooting. If the rest of your gear is black, white, or shades of grey this stick will blend in with the rest of your pads.

Performance:

Have not used the stick, considering I just received it. I can tell you that I am anxious and excited to compare the response and feel of a composite stick. The Bauer stick is slightly longer and feels lighter than my Sher-Wood stick. I’m looking forward to seeing how it absorbs shots along the front-facing paddle. I spoke with a salesman at the local hockey store and he compared the flat-front to a blocker or leg pad in the way it easily deflects shots to the corner.
What Bauer Says:

The stick is designed for the hybrid style of goalie. The 27.5″ length is designed for more upright goalies because of the regular lie and longer paddle. The open curve will help goalies who shoot the puck often increase puck control and raise the puck quicker. Flat front geometry improves rebound control, balance and reduces weight.

Ending Notes:

I have used the stick twice in our weekly skate. It has a good feel to it. I like the way it deflects shots with the flat paddle. As a goalie that tends to play the puck more than most, I like the way it shoots the puck. I am able to get  a lot of torque on the stick and can lift the puck off the ice easily. I’m able to play the puck off the glass much easier and quicker than my previous stick.

Check back in the coming months as I use the stick and put it through regular wear-and-tear.

What is Behind Bauer Photo?

At the top of the 4:00 p.m. hour on the east coast, Bauer Hockey posted a picture on their Facebook page. It appears to be a darkened silhouette of  New York Rangers backstop Henrik Lundqvist sliding in the butterfly across the crease in a darkened ice rink. Under Lundqvist, it has the tag-line of “Goaltending Will Evolve” with 2012 over it. With Lundqvist playing in the Winter Classic Jan. 2, it will be interesting to see if he plays the game in what ever new goaltending line Bauer will have to offer in 2012.

Back in November, we posted a preview of the upcoming Supreme Total One Custom Goal Pad. This looks like it could be the beginning of the market plan for this line that hits stores in the spring.

As a goalie, I will be paying special attention because I am in the market for some new goalie gear such as a blocker, glove and for the right price: pads. Check out the photo below and give your best hypothesis of what the symbolism means in the comment section.

Easton Stealth RS Skate

We finally have confirmation of the new Easton Stealth RS skate with the picture below. Coming from the latest Easton Hockey catalog, the picture showcases Easton athlete Zach Parise’s reaction to the Stealth RS skate. The black and yellow coloring on the Stealth RS skate match the rest of the Stealth RS line (stick, pants and protective), and looks similar to a picture we posted of what was said to be the Stealth 85S skates. However, the Stealth 85S we posted is beginning to look more like a prototype (you can see the tongue on the skate contains the old Easton logo, rather than the new).

While the Easton Stealth RS skates will not be ready for a launch with the rest of the protective gear, you can bet they’re going to be a pretty slick skate. Easton has been making strides with their gear as of late, and the release of a Stealth RS skate should help them even more. We will keep you updated with release date information as we find out more, but for now, check out the image below and let us know what you think of the Stealth RS skates.

Ice Hockey Holiday Gift Guide – 2011

The holidays are almost upon us once again. With just under two weeks until Christmas, you’re running out of time to get the hockey player in your life some of the best gear available. Not to worry, we have compiled a list of our favorite ice hockey items into our 2011 gift guide to help you with decision making.

Be sure to use the coupon code HOCKEYWORLD when shopping at Pure Hockey for an additional 10% savings!

Skates

High EndBauer APX – This is Bauer’s most advanced skate ever, and carries a top end price tag as you might expect. With a great design and incredible comfort, how can you go wrong? The APX features form-fit foam ankle pads, form-fit 3 tongue, and an abrasion resistant metatarsal guard. It’s also going to have a full thermoformable upper, a vented composite outsole, and a liner that’s great at wicking away moisture. It the foot fits, you seriously can’t go wrong with this high performance machine. Pick up the Bauer APX skates now at Pure Hockey for $799.99.

Budget FriendlyCCM U+ 10 – These have been my go to skates for the better part of a year now, and there isn’t a single bad thing I can say about them. The skate is comfortable, light, and can perform as well as higher end skates. The boot on the U+ 10′s has remained stiff throughout use, and continues to impress me with each skate. You can definitely feel the energy transfer from your foot through the boot, just like you would expect with a higher end skate. Fortunately, the CCM U+ 10 skates only run $299, which is a great deal for that kind of lasting performance. Grab the CCM U+ 10 at Pure Hockey for only $299.99.

Sticks

High End: Reebok Ai9 – Just like we noted in our inline hockey holiday guide, the Reebok Ai9 is the top end stick to have this holiday season. Through our experience so far, the Ai9 has provided just as much pop as a Stealth RS, and has been more durable. Both the Stealth RS and Bauer APX cost more, so why not save yourself some money and go for the sure thing. You can buy the Reebok Ai9 stick at Pure Hockey for $239.99.

Budget Friendly: Bauer X4.0 – If the person on your shopping list still needs great performance out of a stick, but you don’t want to spend too much, look into the Bauer X4.0. You’re going to have to sacrifice on weight a little bit, so expect a stick over 500 grams. But in the end, you’ll get a stick that has Bauer’s intelli-sense shot technology, double concave shaft walls, and of course will provide great control, puck feel, and shot accuracy. Pick up the Bauer X4.0 stick from Pure Hockey for only $99.99.

Helmet

High End: Easton E700 – This is the first helmet to come in a matte finish, you can choose either black or white. The black matte looks incredibly stealthy out on the ice, and it will feel like you’re wearing nothing. The great part is, with a helmet that light, you don’t have to sacrifice protection at all. Easton’s new Giro inspired fit system will provide the comfort while its crush resistant properties and PC shell will keep your melon fully protected. Easton’s R&D team put a lot of work into this new design, and the results are exceptional. Easton’s E700 can be purchased at Pure Hockey for $149.99.

Budget: None – You’re going to spend all sorts of money on sticks and skates, but skimp on the piece of equipment that protects your head from serious injury? I don’t think so. If the Easton E700 isn’t for you, look into the Bauer 9900 or Reebok 11k.

Gloves

High End: Bauer 4 Roll – This glove is one of the best around, offering great protection with a traditional 4 roll style. These gloves are designed to give your hand some additional space for moving around, and the thermo max liner will keep your hand dry all game long. The soft clarino nash palm will provide a great feel for the stick in your hands, and will be much more durable than the palms you find on other gloves. Pick up the Bauer 4 Roll gloves at Pure Hockey for $109.99.

Budget: Bauer One60 – It’s hard to go wrong with a Bauer product, no matter what it is. The One60 gloves were designed to fit a lot closer to your hand, but still provide great mobility. This glove is great for beginners and advanced players alike, giving the player a great feel for the stick and virtually no break-in time. Grab a pair of the Bauer One60 gloves at Pure Hockey for only $79.99.

Easton Stealth RS Protective Shoulder Pads, Elbow Pads, Shin Guards

Along with the Easton Stealth RS Pants, we now have a great glimpse at the rest of the Stealth RS protective line, including Stealth RS shoulder pads, Stealth RS elbow pads and the Stealth RS shin guards. Easton has maintained the all black look for the new Stealth RS protective line, with yellow accents to go along with it. The new Easton logo is prominent on each piece of equipment, as they continue to enhance their brand with new gear.

Just like the Easton Stealth RS pants, the Stealth RS shoulder pads are going to be really light and are designed to provide the player with maximum mobility while wearing them. The adjustable bicep protectors will help to give you more range of motion when moving. The Stealth RS shoulder pads will also be using griptec to help keep the pads from shifting and moving around during and after collisions.

Easton’s Stealth RS shin guards look a little more on the narrow side, for players that prefer a lean shin guard over a bulky one. The Sling Tec technology will help to keep your shin distanced from the point of impact on the shin guard, while a removable liner will keep your lower legs comfortable. Like the rest of the line, expect these guys to be on the light and mobile side as well.

With the Stealth RS elbow pads, look for more of the same. You’re going to get a light, comfortable elbow pad that will provide great protection by dispersing impact over the entire pad.

Take a look at the Easton Stealth RS protective line below and let us know your thoughts. Will you be purchasing any of these in the near future?

Update: The new Easton Stealth RS protective shoulder pads, elbow pads and shin guards are all available now at Pure Hockey. Check out the Stealth RS protective line today and use the coupon code HOCKEYWORLD to save 10% on select items!

The holidays are almost upon us once again. With just under two weeks until Christmas, you’re running out of time to get the hockey player in your life some of the best gear available. Not to worry, we have compiled a list of our favorite roller hockey items into our 2011 gift guide to help you with decision making.

Skates

High End: Mission Axiom T10 Revolt – These flashy white skates will do the trick for the player who needs a high end and solid performing roller hockey skate. Mission has been around for years, so you can trust that they build a durable product that is made to last for years. After being acquired by Bauer Hockey, things only get better. The Axiom T10 is still a bit steep on price at $650, but it will make up for it in longevity. With Rink Rat Hornet Split wheels and Mission’s own Swiss LE 608 bearings, you’ll be one of the fastest players on the rink and have the ability to stop on a dime. The only thing you’ll have to worry about with these skates is whether or not you’ll skill can live up to their expectations. Grab them now at Inline Warehouse for $650.

Budget Friendly: Alkali CA5 – Alkali Hockey is new to the roller hockey scene, but they seem to have already made a name for themselves. The company’s first line has introduced the CA5 skate, which is a solid offering for a newcomer or a skilled player with years of experience. The price point is great and will definitely fit into your holiday budget at only $229.99. Alkali has stocked this skate with a new chassis that offers an 80mm wheel set up, and loaded it up with ABEC 9 bearings as well. You’re going to find these skates keep you in an aggressive stance, ready to pounce on the puck at all times. Grab them now at Inline Warehouse for only $229.99.

Sticks

High End: Reebok Ai9 – The latest stick from Reebok hockey has been absolutely incredible for us. You can check out our initial impressions article for more information. To break it down though, this is the least expensive of the top end sticks (AI9, Bauer APX and Stealth RS) and carries just as much pop as you would expect from the Stealth RS, while proving to be much more durable in our testing. The Ai9 is aesthetically pleasing, and provides great puck feel as well. Seriously, what is there not to like? Grab one for $239.99 at Pure Hockey and use the coupon code HOCKEYWORLD to save an additional 10%.

Budget Friendly: Alkali CA9 – The CA9 stick from Alkali Hockey is the premier stick in their line-up, offering a great one piece stick with a low kick-point for only $149.99. The stick has a slick design, and features built in anti-slash protection to help keep your stick alive and increase durability. Grab the Alkali CA9 stick at Inline Warehouse for only $149.99.

Pants

High End: Bauer XR3 – These pants are great for a player who wants a really lightweight pant, but isn’t interested in all the flash and noise typically found on Mission products. The XR3 pants come in all black, with your choice of 3 different accent colors – white, blue, or red. With the pants being made from great material that is really light, you know they’re going to be breathable as well which is going to help keep you cool throughout the game. The 1680D nylon knee panel helps improve durability, hopefully keeping these pants fresh for a long time. Pick these up at Inline Warehouse for only $49.99.

Budget Friendly: Tour Spartan Pro – While the saying often goes “you get what you pay for,” I think Tour has surpassed expectations with the Spartan Pro pants. Coming in three different color combos, the Spartan Pro is going to be the most durable pant you come across. With two layers of 1680 Denier nylon in the knees, you’re going to see far fewer burn holes in your knees. Beyond that, the hydra-air fabric is going be light, and wick away moisture throughout your games. This is one of the more popular pants that we see among tournament skaters, and that’s because they’re just plain good. Grab the Tour Spartan Pro pants for only $36.95 at Inline Warehouse.

Bags

High End: Bauer APXR Gear Backpack – The top of the line backpack bag for Bauer falls into this slot for a reason. With a great design, embroidered logos, and heavy duty construction, this gear backpack is in it for the long haul. The dimensions on the APXR are greater than any other gear backpack we came across, giving you enough room to store everything you need. With all that space, you could even store ice hockey gear if you happen to play both. Grab the APXR Gear Backpack now for $79.99 at Inline Warehouse.

Budget FriendlyBauer XR3 Gear Backpack – The second-tier gear backpack from Bauer shouldn’t be taken so lightly. It carries the same dimensions as its older brother, but skims on some of the nicer features and materials found in the APXR. Instead you’ll find screen printed graphics, nice padded shoulder straps, and a bag that uses 600D nylon construction to be extremely durable. At only $49.99, it’s hard to go wrong with the XR3 gear backpack. Pick one up now at Inline Warehouse.

You still have plenty of time to order any of these items for your favorite person, even if that person is yourself. Inline Warehouse guarantees shipping in time for Christmas as long as you follow their shipping guidelines. Order by December 16th for UPS ground, December 21st for UPS 2nd day air, and December 22nd for UPS next day air.

Easton Stealth RS Hockey Pants

After seeing a lot of success with the Easton Stealth RS stick, we are now getting closer to more stealth gear as they prepare for the release of the Easton Stealth RS hockey pants. The new Stealth RS pants, which will be available in both black and navy colors, are going to be really light weight and offer a lot of mobility. Nothing stands out aesthetically on the Stealth RS pants, besides looking stealthy. Easton has continued with the black and yellow color scheme first seen on the stick, offering a black liner with yellow accents.

Let us know what you think of the new Easton Stealth RS hockey pants in the comments.
