Double Dose of All-Access Hockey Leading up to Winter Classics

Most hockey fans are familiar with the all-access, behind the scenes hockey programming that has been in the past leading up to the Winter Classic. Under HBO, it was called “HBO 24/7: Road To The NHL Winter Classic” and after the switch to Epix two years ago it became “Epix Presents Road to the NHL Outdoor Classic”.

Well this season because there are two outdoor games at the start of 2017 you get a double dosage of behind the scenes action. Epix Presents Road to the NHL Outdoor Classics will premiere Dec. 16 at 10 p.m. ET in four one-hour long episodes leading up to the Detroit-Toronto Centennial Classic and the Chicago-St. Louis NHL Winter Classic game.

If you aren’t sure if you have Epix or want to see if you have Epix, Go Here.

One positive to look forward with is that three of the four teams have gone through the process of having the cameras around the clock leading up to an outdoor game.

One of the things fans love about the show is seeing the players off the ice. Whether it’s a young player playing video games in his apartment or a veteran driving to and from practice, fans love seeing players in a honest spotlight. Of course while trying to make a television show there’s a delicate balance between getting access while trying to avoid getting in the players way.

We can’t wait for the hot mics catching bench language after a bad call in a game and a vocal coach like Mike Babcock going off on their team during an intermission.

Check out the promo from last season to get you pumped up for the new edition beginning next month.
