Ovechkin Snipes After Hiding Behind Ref

Alex Ovechkin may have surprised a couple of Flyers players with his goal last night. After all, sneaking behind a ref might do that.

Midway through the second period of last night’s game, Ovechkin came on the ice in deceitful fashion. Instead of jumping right in to the play, he managed to stay out of sight and hidden behind the referee next to the Capitals bench.

As he usually does, teammate Nicklas Backstrom was able to find Ovechkin and feed him a pass along the boards. Backstrom took a hit to make the play, but it was well worth it.

After collecting the pass, Ovechkin skated in and fired a powerful wrist shot from above the right circle that went blazing past Steve Mason.

Now, there’s really no reason why Mason shouldn’t have made this save. But, on the other hand, you have to applaud Ovechkin for his efforts here. He’s a pure goal scorer and knows how to get it done.

The visiting Washington Capitals would go on to trounce the Flyers and win the game by a final of 6-1.
