A veteran like Ryan Kesler should know better than to shoot a puck after play has stopped. But, a veteran like Ryan Kesler is also very good at getting under the skin of opposing teams, and he did just that to the Calgary Flames last night.
The Anaheim Ducks were leading 1-0 in the final seconds of last night’s game against the Flames when Kesler found himself in a race for a breakaway. After the final horn sounded, Kesler still wound up and took a shot into the empty net.
T.J. Brodie took offense to it and shouldered Kesler into the boards. Dennis Wideman, on the other hand, was a bit more upset. He jumped on Ducks forward and immediately threw a number of quick punches. Ryan Getzlaf came to the aid of his teammate and tied up Wideman, which eventually lead to a quick fight.
A total of 26 meaningless penalty minutes would be handed out at the end of the game, including fighting majors for Wideman and Getzlaf and a 10 minute misconduct for Kesler.

You neglected to mention that Kesler pushed Brodie back before Wideman came in.
