Tempers Flare in Winnipeg-Nashville Skirmish

There are many unwritten rules in hockey and unfortunately for Mark Scheifele he broke one of them and it led to a fracas between the Jets and Predators that resulted in minor penalties to everyone on the ice except for Winnipeg goalie Michael Hutchinson.

With the Predators ahead 5-0 4:44 into the third period, Scheifele was carrying the puck into the Nashville zone and was whistled for off-sides. Winnipeg was being shutout and tried any way to get the puck in the net and Scheifele continued skating towards Pekka Rinne and slid the puck into the net.

He was quickly confronted by Nashville players for the incident and his Winnipeg teammates quickly followed up. Rinne had an issue with it and joined the melee and wanted to give Scheifele a piece of his mind.

After it was all said and done Ryan Ellis,  Mike Fisher, Mattias Ekholm, Colin Wilson and James Neal (serving for Rinne) were sent off for Nashville while Andrew Copp, Mark Stuart, Jacob Trouba, Drew Stafford, and Scheifele spent time in the penalty box together. Everyone was penalized for Unsportsmanlike Conduct while Renne received a penalty for leaving the crease.

Nashville tacked on two power play goals later in the period en route to a 7-0 win.

The scorekeeper was not only busy with goals, but they were busy with penalties. Take a look at the penalty summary from NHL.com. The Jets received 84 penalty minutes while the Predators were tallied 72 penalty minutes.
