Devil’s Won’t Keep Brodeur; Eligible for Draft

Anthony BrodeurMonday is the deadline for teams to sign previous draft picks to entry-level contracts. The New Jersey Devil’s won’t sign goaltender Anthony Brodeur, meaning the son of future Hall of Famer Martin is likely to never play for his father’s club.

Drafted in the seventh round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Anthony has had a rough season in the QMJHL. He played for Gatineau Olympiques but lost his starting job and was then claimed off of waivers by the Drummondville Voltigeurs. With Gatineau he went 5-4-3, with a 3.72 GAA and .876 save percentage. With Drummondville his record wasn’t much better with 3-6-1 record, 3.88 GAA and .882 save percentage.

Tom Gulitti of the North Bergen Record reported that team president Lou Lamoriello broke the news to Anthony Brodeur because of his relationship with the family.

“Lou had that conversation with Anthony (Friday).” GM Ray Shero said to Gulitti. “Obviously, if he gets drafted that would be fantastic, but if he doesn’t there will be a spot for him in our development camp and we would love to see him and we’ll see what happens.”

Brodeur, 19, is eligible for the 2015 Entry Draft, and if he isn’t picked up by a team he will become a unrestricted free agent.
