Ovechkin scores awesome goal from his knees

Thanks to his speed and power, Alexander Ovechkin is one of the best goal scorers in the game today—and those qualities were on full display during his most recent highlight-reel goal.

During Washington’s 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday, Ovechkin gave his team a glimmer of hope for a comeback when he sniped a goal top corner over Henrik Lundqvist’s shoulder…

From his knees.

Ovechkin takes a pass as he moves up through the neutral zone and immediately puts on the jets with a couple powerful strides toward two awaiting Rangers defenseman, Certainly not one to be intimidated, Ovechkin sees a hole and goes for it. The defenseman close in on Ovechkin and try to stop him, but only end up tripping him on his way to the net. He still manages to somehow get a shot away from just inside the faceoff circle, which shoots over Lundqvist’s shoulder and into the top left corner of the net.

The Rangers and Capitals are currently tied at one game apiece in their Eastern Conference matchup.
