Remaining selections announced for 2015 NHL All-Star Game

asg123457_325In addition to the six fan-selected players that were previously announced, the NHL has shared the names of the 36 remaining players who will fill out the rosters for the 2015 NHL All-Star Game.

Each of the 30 NHL teams will have at least one representative at the game. The Chicago Blackhawks will be the best represented, having five players (Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Kieth, Brent Seabrook and Corey Crawford), all of whom were voted into the contest by fans. The remaining fan selection was Buffalo Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons, who was the runaway fan-voted favorite with 1,574,896 votes—nearly 350,000 votes ahead of the next highest vote-getter, Patrick Kane.

This year’s event will take place on Jan. 25 at Nationwide Arena, home of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Three of the All-Star selections will feel quite at home during the event, with current Blue Jackets players Nick Foligno, Ryan Johansen and Sergei Bobrovski all representing their club.

Former Blue Jackets forward Rick Nash will serve as the lone representative for the New York Rangers.

Only Columbus, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Tampa Bay and Nashville received multiple selections. Per the NHL’s rule, every team must receive at least one.

Perennial favorites Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin, Shea Weber, John Tavares, Ryan Getzlaf and Phil Kessel were all named 2015 All-Stars. League goal-scoring leader Tyler Seguin will represent the Dallas Stars in his All-Star Game, and NHL points leader Jakub Voracek will represent the Philadelphia Flyers with captain Claude Giroux.

Eight players will appear in their first-ever NHL All-Star Game, including Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Patrice Bergeron, Mark Giordano, Justin Faulk, Erik Johnson, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Bobby Ryan and Radim Vrbata. Six rookies were also selected to compete in the Skills Competition on Jan. 24., including Johnny Gaudreau, Aaron Ekblad, Tanner Pearson, Filip Forsberg, Mike Hoffman and Jonathan Drouin.

The teams will be coached by Peter Laviolette of the Nashville Predators and Darryl Sutter of the Los Angeles Kings.
