Pittsburgh Penguins Unveil New Black Third Jersey
- Updated: September 19, 2014
Earlier this morning the Pittsburgh Penguins officially unveiled their new third jerseys for the upcoming season. The fresh new look features a black design with the return of the retro “Penguins Gold.”
These retro jerseys were originally worn during the Mario Lemieux era, and more specifically, 1986 to 1992. As many of you may remember, the Penguins also won back-to-back Stanley Cup championships during that time. Perhaps the Penguins were just paying homage to an excellent era of hockey in Pittsburgh, or maybe they’re hoping the new jerseys will mark a return of the Cup.
Sidney Crosby and company will sport their new threads for the first time on home ice against the Philadelphia Flyers. The game will take place at 8pm and tickets are available. The Penguins will wear the black and gold jerseys a total of 12 games this season, and you can find the schedule on the Penguins team site.
