New York Islanders acquire Halak

jaroslav-halakJaroslav Halak is now with his fourth NHL club in roughly two months.

The New York Islanders announced today that they have acquired the rights for the veteran goaltender from the Washington Capitals in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick at this year’s NHL Entry Draft.

Halak, who started the season with the St. Louis Blues, was traded at the trade deadline to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for goaltender Ryan Miller. However, Halak never suited up for the Sabres and was instead flipped to the Washington Capitals to help with their push for the postseason. In 12 appearances with the Capitals, Halak had a 5-4-3 record with a 2.31 GAA and .930 save percentage.

With Halak scheduled to become a free agent on July 1, the Islanders have roughly two months to agree to terms on a contract. The 28-year-old goaltender made $4.5 million last season.
