Sean Avery to Join Dancing with the Stars

Originally written yesterday on Page Six, former NHL player Sean Avery is set to trade his ice skates for dancing shoes on the new season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

Sean Avery played 10 years in the NHL for Detroit, Los Angeles, Dallas, and New York Rangers.

The full cast lineup won’t be revealed until Tuesday on Good Morning America, but many media outlets are reporting who have been tapped for the new show.

Since Avery has left the NHL in 2012, he’s been involved with his fashion and advertising ventures in New York. He was working with agency Lipman until they closed up shop last year. Avery has also been spotted working out at the New York studio of trainer Tracy Anderson, which could be in preparation for the show.

Another thing that could lead to him being on the show is that he recently posted a video of himself showing off some learned dance moves to Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse,” but the video was taken down.

Avery isn’t the only hockey connection to the show. Former ESPN and current FOX broadcaster Erin Andrews has been brought on to be co-host alongside Tom Bergeron. Andrews is currently dating Kings forward Jared Stoll.

I feel that Avery should fare well on the show, things you need to succeed on Dancing with the Stars are light feet, flare, and charisma. Those are things Avery doesn’t lack. Since Dancing with the Stars is a family show, we can expect him to refrain from one of his most infamous incidents from 2008.

The show premieres March 17.
