St. Louis Blues Unbeaten Since Christmas

The St. Louis Blues are knocking on the door of the division leading Chicago Blackhawks as their win streak has been stretched to six games. The Blues have been rolling recently, and have not lost since December 23rd against the Calgary Flames.

As of today, the Blues sit only two points behind Chicago in the standings, and have played four fewer games. The Blues have also picked up more wins (30) on the season, than the Blackhawks (29).

The Blues have been on a torrid pace, as I mentioned, winning their past six games and are 11-1-2 in their past fourteen.

Part of their success recently has been due to goaltender Brian Elliot, who is filling in for the injured Jaroslav Halak. Elliot has been ridiculously good this season, going 13-1-2. His goals against average is a mere 1.86, and he’s rocking a .926 save percentage. Additionally, he’s earned three shutouts in those thirteen wins. Elliot himself is also on a seven game win streak.

Tonight, the Blues will face off against the Calgary Flames. Oddly enough, Calgary was the last team to beat the Blues. They did so in exciting fashion by picking up two third period goals, including one with five seconds remaining, to send the game to overtime. The overtime session remained scoreless, but Joe Colborne scored the only goal of the shootout to give the Flames a victory.

Despite their success in the last meeting, the Calgary Flames are still one of the worst teams in the NHL this season. With the Blues riding high on this winning streak, and behind the excellent play of Brian Elliot, we can expect the win streak to continue for at least one more game.
