Fantasy Friday: Jonathan Huberdeau scores filthy penalty shot goal against Flyers

Haven’t heard of Jonathan Huberdeau yet? You might want to get him on your radar then, because this kid has talent.

After scoring an incredible 72 points in just 37 games last season for the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL, 19-year-old Jonathan Huberdeau is making an immediate impact for the Florida Panthers this season. The Panthers selected Huberdeau third overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, and in his first season with the club he currently leads the team with eight goals and 13 points in 16 games. While Florida continues to struggle this season and finds themselves situated at 13th in the Eastern Conference, Huberdeau certainly gives the team something to build around for the future.

Huberdeau is also ranked 99 according to Yahoo fantasy hockey, putting him ahead of big names like Jaromir Jagr, Jarome Iginla, Mikko Koivu and Bobby Ryan. The difference is that any one of those players is owned in 70 percent or more of Yahoo leagues, while Huberdeau is owned in just 40 percent of all Yahoo leagues. If you’re in the 60 percent where he’s available, he’s definitely worth the risk.Need more convincing to attest to Huderbeau’s skill? Check out this fancy move from last night’s contest between the Panthers and the Philadelphia Flyers where Huberdeau makes goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov look absolutely silly.
