Close up pictures have finally begun to leak out of Bauer’s latest skate, the Bauer Vapor APX 2 skates. Bauer has decided on a darker look for the APX 2 skates, removing much of the light gray from the original APX skate and replacing it with a darker gray on the APX2. Gone as well is the red stripe featured on the quarter package of the original APX.

Also new and improved on the Bauer Vapor APX 2 skates is the tongue – which as you can tell from the picture is much longer. They’ve definitely moved away from the Form-Fit 3 tongue from the original APX and into a new ultra-soft three piece tongue to prevent lace bite (and of course to flop).

Additionally, the Bauer Vapor APX 2 skates are using the new Tuuk Lightspeed Edge holder. The unique feature on this holder is the trigger which can be seen in the hole closest to the heel. This trigger will allow players to quickly swap out broken steel in a matter of seconds.

Finally, you can see that the eyelets on the Vapor APX 2 skates appear different as well. That’s because they will be using a new an innovative new lacing system. While we don’t really know what affect that will have, you can definitely tell from the picture below that it is different.

We first brought you a look at the new 2013 Vapor skates back in July. Many questioned at that point whether it was a new Vapor skate, or an older limited edition skate. We’re happy to confirm that those skates are in fact the Bauer Vapor APX 2 and look forward to their release next April.

Take a look at the new Bauer Vapor APX 2 skates below and let us know your thoughts in the comments. The latest skates from Bauer look real nice, but will you be replacing your current skates with a pair of these?

  1. These look really good definitely an upgrade from the first generation APX’s. Its about time they changed up the blade and holder. Looking forward to seeing these once the lockout is over.

  2. The skates will be expected to retail at 849.99. The major changes in the skate from the older apx which is now called the x100 will be the Ls edge holder, the felt tongue, and the composite eyelids that are stiffer and make the boot lighter.

  3. APX2 : is this what Ovechkin will skate on ? Well, if they’re good enough for that Good Ole Boy, they’re good enough for this one ! I’ve skated on CCM custom boots since Noah was in nappies. The CL is a great, cumfy, boot. But..like Ovechkin..I’m moovin’ on !! Jack The Hat

  4. These are prototypes, so whoever the pro that is trying these out likes a big white tongue meaning he likes to flop them! On the in store addition they will probably change the tongue to something more traditional like the tongue on the apx now.

  5. I really like the darker more modern look, however I think the “APX 2” isn’t the greatest name. I understand though, kinda running out of options. I would just like to see that darker gray changed to black, and have that full blacked out sleek look. But most likely Ill get them that last week of April, because my Reebok 20k’s are really terrible, way to flexible of a boot for the money you pay.

  6. Bauer rep had these at my home arena looked just like the pic except the tounge was much shorter still longer then the apx 1s but not the large he said that the eyelets were now one with the boot instead if being stitched on this will create a more wraped around feel cant wait till the come out!!

  7. either getting the apx 1 or the reebok 20k later this month. Any thoughts.
    P.S i have a long narrow foot.
Will the rbk’s mold to my narrow foot

    • I haven’t tried the 20K or even looked into it really but for what I can ttell you is that the apx is a great skate. I went from the supremes and never looked back, but if your looking into the apx you should wait till the apx2 comes out the colour scheme looks better. And if you don’t want to spend an upwards of 1000 then you could go for the x100s they are pretty much the apx but with the apx2 colours and the new tuuk holder. Hope this helps
