Detroit Red Wings Player Update

While many players have jumped ship to European leagues due to the NHL lockout, we here in the in North America are now unable to follow some of our favorite players on TV like we’re used to. So below is a look at how players from the Detroit Red Wings are currently doing with their ventures into other leagues.

All stats below are current as of the morning October 16th. If a player isn’t mentioned below, it is more than likely due to the fact that he is not currently playing in any professional leagues.

Joakim Andersson – Swedish prospect drafted in 88th overall in 2007 is currently playing for the Red Wings minor league affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. Through two games, Andersson has a goal, no assists, and has a minus one rating.

Damien Brunner - Swiss League
The Detroit Red Wings have high hopes for Damien Brunner as a top six forward once the NHL lockout comes to an end.

Damien Brunner – Highly skilled forward in Europe which the Red Wings added over the summer through free agency. He has spent much of his tenure with Zug in the Swiss-A league. Through ten games, Brunner currently has seven goals and ten assists for seventeen points. He is a plus five and has picked up six penalty minutes.

Pavel Datsyuk – Currently skating with CSKA Moscow of the KHL. In eight games, the star center has three goals and seven assists for ten points. He is a plus six and has two penalty minutes.

Cory Emmerton – Playing with SaiPa Lappeenranta of the SM-liiga in Finland. Has only played one game thus far, and has not yet gotten his name on the scoresheet.

Valtteri Filppula – Went back home to play with Jokerit Helsinki in Finland. Through nine games, Filppula has four goals and five assists for nine points. He is a plus four, and has two penalty minutes. Valtteri is currently being outplayed by older brother Ilari who also plays for Jokerit and was a former member of the Grand Rapids Griffins. Ilari has seven goals and twelve assists for nineteen points in thirteen games played.

Jakub Kindl – This Red Wings defenseman is currently skating in the Czech league for Pardubice HC. In nine games, Kindl has one assist, six penalty minutes, and is a minus eight.

Drew Miller – Playing for Braehead Clan in the Elite Ice Hockey League in the United Kingdom. Through two games, Miller has a goal and an assist. He has no penalty minutes and even plus minus rating.

Jan Mursak – Was supposed to be a regular with the Red Wings last season before breaking his leg. While currently playing for Ljubljana Olimpija HK in Austria, Mursak has four goals and ten assists in only six games. He is also a plus ten.

Gustav Nyquist – Skating with the Grand Rapids Griffins currently, whose season just got underway. Through two games, Nyquist has only one assist. He is currently a minus one.

Riley Sheahan – Has only cracked the Red Wings line up for one game, and will be spending this season in Grand Rapids. In one game played for the Griffins, Sheahan registered no points and is a minus one.

Brendan Smith – Currently skating with the Grand Rapids Griffins. Through two games, Smith has one assist and is a plus one.

Tomas Tatar – Entering his fourth season in Grand Rapids. Tatar has one assist through two games and is a minus one.

While several of the Red Wings have found other teams during the lockout, there are still several who are continuing to train in preparation for an NHL season. With the NHL and Players Association meeting again today, we can only hope their issues and the lockout will be resolved soon.
